James - I think you should take your tuner to your next lesson and check it
note for note with your teacher's tuner before you spend money on another
tuner. I own three tuners, one of which is a Seiko and one is an
inexpensive Qwick Tune and each one is perfectly in tune with the other.
All tuners use electronic chips similar to those used in electronic
instruments and they are always accurate. If you are always flat to your
tuner, then the calibration of the tuner must be set differently than your
teacher's tuner. His may be set at A=440 and yours may be set at A=442 or
444. This would make you play flat to your tuner. Read the calibration
instructions that came with the tuner. You could also try a different reed.
Not all reeds tune the same. Some reeds play flat.
