I, too, double, but mostly as a teacher. My studio includes clarinet,
flute, oboe, saxophone and piano students. I think this is the main
reason I am able to make my living teaching privately. (And I love the
variety each hour brings!) My playing abilities vary instrument to
instrument, but I am always looking to improve. Even in high school,
though, I was interested in other instruments, getting a friend to teach
me what she knew about flute.

What universities offer a woodwind degree? I have only heard of a
couple. That is something I am interested in.

I agree! Most of my teaching is teaching of _music_. My husband (band
director) and I disagree on this point. He is always after the flutes
and clarinets to switch to brass. (You know the story.) I am always
glad when a few stand up and say no!! IMHO, any student will get more
out of their studies if they actually _like_ their instrument in some
way (the sound of it, usually). (And, I suppose it is possible that
some of them enjoy their new brass instrument....)
