RIGHT!!! This happened to me. I only tried out for college on oboe because
I was told that there were more opportunities for oboists AND because where
I wanted to go to college said I had a hundred percent chance of getting in
on oboe. I didn't get in there. So...now I am an oboe major. I hate it,
so next school year I will be a clarinet major. Clarinetfest really made me
see that I wanted to be a clarinet.

The moral of the story is: Let the kid do what he wants to. Don't worry
about what jobs are available. Remember to make sure he/she has fun making
the music, no matter what instrument he is playing.
