Sorry...the previous email was sent before I had a chance to finish...

This is Cindy Field. I would like to state several things to clarify my
position on this issue:

1. I was wrong to post something to the list that I sincerely believed to be
in the public domain but had no way of checking out thoroughly. I DO believe
issues of copyright infringement are serious and Lelia is correct in stating
her case. Authors, writers, composers etc. should feel grateful that she is
standing up for the ideal.

2. On at least one occasion, a published work of mine was actually republished
by someone in a print educational journal claiming it as their own by using a
byline. Many of the computer templates I designed over the past 17 years are
being used and shared by people all over the Internet without attribution or
financial compensation to me. Because I don't think people realize that I
created these works, I do not hold them accountable. Maybe I should, but I
don't feel it is in the best interest of a free society to punish people who
make innocent mistakes. Truth is, some of my works, PC and/or Mac related, may
be on your hard drives or the hard drives at your children's schools as I
write this.

3. We all need to be more careful about reposting material sent to us over the
Internet. That was my mistake. In retrospect, a lof the humor people share on
the Internet is a big waste of bandwidth anyway. But let's refrain from
accusing someone of plagiarism. That has far greater consquences because it
harms an individual's reputation.
