Mr. Grabner- The muscles in the front part of my neck tend to become
tense, and they begin to feel strained. They feel pinched during
playing, although it is not obvious in my tone- it is not pinched
sounding. It tends to occur after playing long tones for longer amounts
of time- I'm probably just overdoing it sometimes (I'm completely
obsessed with long tones), but some days it is tense only after playing
for just a few minutes. It usually feels tired and achy after I play.
I've been doing a lot of breathing exercises to make sure that my
breathing isn't causing it, but I don't think that was what was causing
the tension. About a year ago, my teacher had me practicing leaning
against a wall while I played. This served to keep my neck at a slight
angle bending forward, and it helped. However, it still became tense at
times, and certainly isn't a very practical way of playing all the time.

Thank you for taking an interest and for any suggestions that you may
have-
Erin
