While I would have to go check a history book, here is what I remember being
taught. The Prime Minister of England (Chamberlain I think at that time)
signed an agreement with Germany allowing them to take over Czechoslovakia.
This was an attempt to prevent the breakout of war. Hitler agreed not to
attack other countries if he could have Czechoslovakia. Well it did not
work as we all know. So one might say that technically this pre-dates WWII
but certainly not by much and it was part of the whole political scene that
built up to the war. However I did check the dates on the "lifespan" of the
initial country of Czechoslovakia as I have an alto horn that is stamped
with the country's name and it is known to have been sealed in an attic
since the 1930's.
