Erin, What are the symptoms that cause you to think your throat is too tense?

Does it ache after playing? Do you have a pinched, choked-off sound?

We need a little more detail here.

Best suggestion I can make here is to just relax and try not to FORCE. Use a
lot of air, but do not STRAIN. Playing the clarinet should feel free...not
forced or constrained. If you want to feel that way, play oboe (chuckles).

Another suggestion; when to start to feel tired, stop and rest awhile.
Fighting fatigued muscles causes strain.

hours, like he did today.)
