Try calling some local schools and talking to the band directors; up until
last year I was playing in a music teachers' wind ensemble (there were a
few working stiffs like me, but most were band directors or classroom music
teachers). Also, try checking with Chambers of Commerce, who should have a
lilt of community organizations.
Good Luck in your search -- it can be frustrating, especially if you're a
good player (but not professional).
