Chris, I believe that what you are referring to is caused by the organism
Accretius disgustibus var. spitsi. Some people use dilute vinegar or CLR (from
the local hardware store) to eradicate the problem. I think a power washer of
the sort they use to clean commercial buildings would work, too ;-)
