I sometimes have put my tuner on the stand to maintain my own sanity.
Sometimes the pitch in an orchestra will vary greatly between sections. The
tuner is a reliable reference for me. This way I can see if my pitch is at
fault, or someone elses.

I've also learned that you can only lip up so far with out risking the dreaded
*squeak*.
If members of your orchestra are so sharp that you seem flat (even with your
63 mm barrel) then it's better to sound flat than to squeak.
