A word of caution about pulling the swab from the bell to the top:
As I was so brutally reminded last night during rehearsal, if you pull the swab
from the bell to the top while holding on to the lower joint, you may find that
the clarinet can separate between the lower and upper joint, leaving the lower
joint and bell in your hand, and the rest of the clarinet swinging wildly from
the swab. Unfortunately for me, my R-13 hit the ground, bending the LH Bflat
key and bridge linkage. It took about 10 minutes and some screwdrivers and
pliers to get my baby playing again. OW! So the moral of the story: If you
want to pull from the bell, hold the clarinet from the upper joint and BE
CAREFUL!
