I now use a Portnoy swab, before that a Gem. Both are silk--which is key.
I have never seen a silk swab get stuck in a clarinet (altho oboe is a
different kettle of fish).

The silk is stronger (and therefore lasts longer) than the cotton swabs, and
I think that it sucks up the condensation/spit better, too. IMHO, they're
worth the extra couple of bucks.
