Well, our principal bassoonist did at the last dress rehearsal.....and it
helps sometimes. When you are trying to figure out your relationship to
another pitch, it comes in handy. But I agree that the tuner should be
used for checking - not for hearing.

Yup - absolutely. However, I don't discourage the use of a tuner in a
practice room. Listen for pitch relationships/intervals and then check
what you hear with the tuner. Reinforcement or correction is a good thing
if used wisely.
