That seems a pretty concise evaluation to me.
This review affair is principally to do with linguistic convention.
One of the forms of English critical language has traditionally been a
form of understatement, in effect, apologising for not being an
upper-class Philistine. The actual level of knowledge of the reviewer is
often completely concealed by it, so it is not really justifiable to infer
a particular kind of ignorance. (Of course it often looks silly).
