You're right, of course. No one suggests we ought to give middle schoolers top of
the line instruments and force professionals to play on student equipment.
However, even with the best instrument, no one would ever pay to hear me play. But
I'd go and listen to Sabine Meyer or Emma Johnson or that caliber of performer no
matter what they had to use. And any dufus could tell I sound better now with a
decent clarinet. I'll bet it would be a lot harder to tell, except perhaps to the
trained ear, with the professionals.
