Bill, regarding your problem with the
Luyben ligature on a crystal mouthpiece:
I had to stretch mine to make it conform
to and fit onto the mouthpiece. The
Luyben salesperson even instructed me to
do so. Put an old reed onto the
mouthpiece, apply the ligature, tighten
down the screws as much as you can (this
is what Luyben's told me), and leave it
there for a few days. Go back and
retighten the screws occasionally.
