The only things I know of regarding care of a crystal mouthpiece are:
a.) Keep it clean (other wise it looks disgusting)
b.) Handle it very carefully, as if it were made out of glass!

Additional points: Metal ligature is OK. Luyben ligatures tend not to
grip very well. And a mouthpiece patch can help the cold hard feeling on
your teeth. Some people also use one as a cushion under the ligature.
