As an American crossing into Canada on many occasions (I always seem to
be living near the border - Buffalo, NY, Seattle, WA, and now Detroit,
MI) - the same things happen for Americans going into Canada - it's not
just an "American" thing. My wife is a resident alien with a perfectly
valid "green card" issued 19 years ago, right after we married. We've
had way more troubles than we should crossing into Canada ...
