While I was quite young and had only played the clarinet for a few
years, I seem to recall many professional clarinet players complaining
about Buffet clarinets. Theeir pitch always seemed to include, "You have
to try lots and lots of them, but when you do finally find a good
Buffet, they're really great."

I believe that a lot of the problem, and the reputation that Buffet had
at that time for being very inconsistant was do to the fact that Carl
Fischer was not doing a good job of setting the instruments up once they
came into the US and maybe had to undergo a climatic adjustment period.

Buffet seems to be a lot better today. Could it be that the staff of B &
H are spending more time or have better people working on the imports?
