Hi Steve,

You really don't know how many puns I have heard using my name but at
least this one is creative.

I lost the URL you sent for this article, please resend, I would
appreciate seeing it.

No, my letter was not meant quite like that (sorry if it frustrated
you!). I did mention that I don't feel the need to do oil but I never
used it to back up a claim that oiling is unneccessary. It is possible
that M. Kloc actually has some evidence to back up his claim but I have
not talked to him in-depth on this topic. The reason I replied in the
first place is because of the replies to the original post, none
mentioned about how some players don't feel it is necessary. I am
sorry, but it is true not everyone believes in oiling and the poster may
want to take that into consideration.

At the end you notice how I say that others who oil theirs are in
perfect condition, and either way it can remain a fine instrument or
crack, I did NOT mean to say that mine is in good condition "because" I
don't oil my clarinet, or "since I don't have to, it is surely
unneccessary," perhaps I should have been more clear. I am not exactly
sure of the logic of oiling a clarinet when it is brand new, but perhaps
the article you have or other information can explain this.

I am not saying that oiling is wrong, but please understand that there
are some who believe that they can do fine without oiling. It doesn't
necessarily make them wrong or you wrong, especially if they get fine
results with their own methods. I should have stated that to clarify my
position (I sound like I'm back at Model U.N.!). I would leave it up to
the player's own opinions on this topic, since it is so debatable and
one is never going to convince another never to oil or always to oil.

Keep in mind I am not against oiling, I just *personally* don't feel the
need, and I am not using that as evidence against it. That is what I
meant with the last part in my first post.

> Have to go now. Off to the car wash to pick up a new clarinet!

I would stick my clarinet out of the window but there is snow in the way.

Regards,
Mark
