Steve - I presented evidence that was in opposition to yours - but never
said (to my recollection) not to oil the clarinet. In fact, I _do_ oil
my clarinet occasionally, but never could find any scientific evidence
that oiling it _did_ anything, only anecdotal evidence, and there are
(still) some contrary opinions. _That's_ what the whole thing was about.

However, there is some scientific evidence (as a reader pointed out)
that says oiling does have beneficial results, and I accept those.

Some of the things musicians do are out of folklore, which may or may
not have any solid backing - oiling seems to be _not_ one of those.

You seem to have missed the whole point of my discussion with you on
oiling - it was just a presentation of contrary evidence showing that
there is still disagreement with what you assumed to be a "well-known
fact".

Cheers,
