I agree with Bill Hausmann. In Sioux Falls, where I live, we're lucky to
have a store which rarely charges full list for anything, including
special order items. They also stock up on a wide variety of
mouthpieces, reeds, and ligatures. While the prices are a little more
than the mail-order places, they are comparable enough that I, and many
others, are willing to keep our dollars in the local economy. In the
long run, this has helped me, as I was able to pick out a clarinet for
one of my students recently out of 8 R-13's, and 3 Festivals. If
something goes wrong, there is someone there to take care of it. In the
last city I lived in, they behaved in a similar manner. If you do a lot
of business with a store, they'll probably take care of you. Of course,
I'm an extreme optimist.
