Hmm I have not experienced this problem at all. Are you using the cap
that came with the ligature? What type of reed are you using? How far
approximately do you have the ligature down the mouthpiece when you put
the cap on?

It is possible that you have the ligature farther down the mouthpiece
and that the sides are too wide at this point for the cap to accomodate.
If you prefer it in this position and not farther up, then you may want
to reshape the cap. Other options obviously may be to see if you can
buy another cap that will fit it. A plastic mouthpiece cap should make
no more difference than a metal one if it is the same dimensions.
