get
the latest Steven King book at a discount price through Amazon, but a lot of
the
more esoteric stuff will not get printed anymore because it just won't sell

As the kind of person that finds it very difficult to pass a used book store
without going in and spending a few days browsing, I can relate! But I'm not
sure what you mean about esoteric stuff not being printed anymore. I'm
pointing to an opposite trend. Sure, Amazon will not provide the scores to
Harry Parch's music--yet. But I'm wondering if we will see something really
quite exciting happen in the next decade. Because the cost of providing
scores will go down dramatically when they are available for download on-line,
it will be cost effective for more scores to be digitized and made available.
This would inevitably lead to web sites specializing in 'esoteric' music.
Once they digitize a score, it makes money without any more investment of time
and energy--not need to reprint or distribute. They will just keep adding
scores and will only have to sell a few to start making a profit.

I'm playing amateur 'futurist' here, but it seems to make sense.

Truly,
Don
