This issue breaks my heart, too, Mark. In fact, I have written articles that
bemoan the widening gap between the technological haves and have-nots. I don't
know what the solution is except that the have-nots must do everything in
their power to encourage their children to work hard in school. As my Irish
grandmother used to say, "They can't take your education away from you."

Those of us who are "haves" must do what we can to help the poor. For some of
us, that means donating used equipment to schools and community centers. For
others, it could be donating time to help with computer literacy programs.
Others still might prefer to support these initiatives with cash donations.
All of us, however, ARE HELPING through the tax dollars that go to public
libraries where free Web access is becoming increasingly common.

We can help the have-nots in many ways but, ultimately, each individual must
carve out his or her own niche in life. Meantime, the Internet is NOT going to
come to a grinding halt and progress will not wait for the less fortunate to
catch up.

I hope this doesn't sound harsh. It's not meant that way. I'm just trying to
be realistic. And we might consider some of the ways listed above to help
local music programs. Talk about have-nots!

Cindy
