I can replace your pads, cork and springs. Some keys might press a
little harder than others, but the clarinet will sound fine -- as long
as nothing is really wrong. I have just finished replacing the pads on
an alto clarinet. It looks perfect and all of the pads are tight.
There are four adjustments screws up near the top and a couple springs
that counter tension. So far, I can get the register key to stay up or
stay down. You know what this means. I will go to someone who knows
what they are doing. Sure, most good amateurs can do 90% of clarinet
repair. The price of the pro covers them learning how to do the other
10%. If the guy at the horn shop leaves, you might want to get a very
good backup clarinet as insurance.
