Do they realize that there is no where else to go in Chicago for more than a
token selection of classical scores? I talked to one of the old sales clerks
on the 2nd floor (instrumental and band) today, and the old guy was acctualy
in tears. Most of the clerks have been there forever. They were just
informed a short time ago and are totally devastated (it's very very sad).
They all will be out of a job in mid April! He knew of several places with
large pop selections but agreed that there will literally be no where to go
for most of the clarinet or flute scores I buy, which tend to be scholarly
editions from European publishers. NYC has other options, we don't. I'm
contacting the head of the company in NYC and I would hope that all others
who use the store do the same (won't do any good but at least we can go down
fighting).

Carl Fischer is discontinuing their retail stores to focus solely on their
catalog and new composers.
