It won't be long before all sheet music will be downloaded from the Web,
printed on your own printer. With inventory costs reduced that much for
the publisher (no printing costs, no storage costs, no shipping costs; just
a computer file, maybe a CD-ROM), music could stay "in print" indefinitely.
Already stuff is showing up in publishers' catalogs for sale on CD-ROM
with a site license: print all the parts you want, as many copies of the
score as you need. Of course, you pay $200 for the CD-ROM, and then have
to pay for your own paper and ink, but the copyright headache is
significantly reduced.
