$800 is way too high if you can get a new one for $525.

Subject: [kl] Backup horn possibility - Buffet E-11

My husband, who's commuting to Denver for only 2 more weeks now (I hope), is
bringing home for my approval this weekend a Buffet E-11 made in Germany,
nickel silver keys, 64 1/2" barrel, triple skin pads (if I understood him
correctly) made in Germany, SN 497793.... 1995? 1991? offered by the music
store where he takes his flute lessons. They claimed to have reconditioned
it, and said no cracks, and no problems except for an air leak at one pad;
they said that the cure could be to put on cork pads. (My minor question:
if
they claimed to have reconditioned it, why is there an air leak?) Asking
price was I think roughly $800.

I think that may be a bit high, judging from Int'l Music Suppliers' catalog
which lists the E-11 w/silver plated keys for $595. I was planning to scout
the pawnshops, and also see what Chuck Levin has in stock. Also explore
the
Green Line and the top end plastic, per previous suggestions from members of
the list.

There may be a few other features that I can't recall - if I do, I'll send
an
addendum.
But if it plays WELL -- would this be a good backup horn for driving trips,
travel and the like? Is the price excessive?

TIA, Ravel
