Hmmmm, maybe dropping out of lessons at the last minute says something
about the teacher. With my old teacher I would sometimes cancel for
reasons like busy, didn't practice, no reeds, etc. Not too often,
though. With my new teacher I would WALK the 30 minute car trip if
someone couldn't take me. I even went to lessons once when I left my
(Bundy) clarinet on the bus! Before I had almost dreaded them.

Encouragement to teachers:
Make the lesson fun by being interested and excited about the student.
If the teacher just 'sits' through the lesson, the student will do the
same. But if the teacher gets excited about what the student does it is
contagious to the student. They will then want to learn more, get
better, practice, etc. This exactly the case with me and my new
teacher. I am not saying the teacher caries ALL the responsibility,
though.

Good luck to all you teachers

P.S. Being a little bit out of the ordinary helps :)
