Rob Breen noted:
<<<As a final note, consider the following list of military band veterans:
Harold Wright - U.S. Army
Larry Combs - U.S. Army
Anthony Gigliotti - U.S. Navy
Ignatius Genussa - U. S. Navy>>>
I have heard that Messrs. Gigliotti and Genussa were billeted on the same
ship! Now THAT was a strong clarinet section.
My $0.02 on the military band thing. First, you are much more likely to get
a good post if you play better--go to college first, not later. Second, do
not do the Marines. Don't get me wrong--my family is chock full of Marines,
and it's a very noble endeavor; it's just the that playing opportunities,
other than the President's Own, drop off rapidly in quality of life. (Trust
me--you are not going to be in the President's Own after high
school--Eastman maybe.) Again with the exception of the President's Own,
ALL Marines are trained as "riflemen"--this means infantry highly skilled in
killing people. That's what they do.
Army bands march. Marines march more. Try the Navy.

Rob
