Do I take it as in you hope to be developing music related software or what?
:-)

In either case, the school district I am in has fairly deep pockets, at
least right now. As thus, our music program is well augmented with
technology. (Just to give you an idea what kind of school I live in...2
staff members, and 3 students have PalmPilots (myself included), another has
an HPC & Notebook, and another has one of the TI Avigos)

Anyway, our program has recently purchased two brand new G3's PowerMacs
(Macs...uck), to help us out. The software we're putting on includes items
for taking music that someone plays into a mic into MIDI, and then the usual
composition software. Very, very handy stuff, especially when it comes to
figuring out rhythms, or taking a MIDI of you, and then using that to figure
out what parts of intonation need to be changed, or what parts in a piece
need to be worked on.
