Saturday I walked uptown to Carl Fischer to "browse" and noticed a 30% off
sign in the window. When I walked in it was jammed; much more so than normal.
I went up to a sales person and, yes, the retail store is going out of
business. The Astor Place area is heavily gentrified; the rents must be quite
high.

I'm new to the clarinet but very quickly got used to browsing through the file
cabinets sitting on the floor. And in almost every case I did bought
something.

I know of no other store like it here in NYC. I didn't ask if the publishing
arm is still continuing. I assume so.

Very sad.
