Someone was asking about Bill O.Smith. From what I've heard, he got a Prix
de Rome grant to live in Italy for a year and work on a system of
cue-cards outlining many multiphonics and categorizing them by ease of
production, comfortable dynamic range etc. I think these cards are
reproduced in the Rehfeldt "New Directions for Clarinet" book. I think the
first piece to use multi's was John Eaton's Suite for solo clarinet that
Bill Smith premiered.
