Jennifer, you might consider a used mouthpiece that has been refaced to your
liking. There are several refacing experts on this list. I play on several
mouthpieces from Christopher Hill (christopherhill@-----. Among them is
an old Bundy mouthpiece that Chris reworked into a treasure that keeps my C
clarinet in near-perfect tune.

Another refacing expert is Roger Garrett, who is a member of this list. My
most-used mouthpiece is an old Rene Dumont that Roger turned into something
wonderful. Roger also produces a very nice line of new Garrett mouthpieces
that are affordable and easy to play. You can contact Roger at:

I used to play on off-the-shelf Vandoren mouthpieces, and I still like them,
but there are other alternatives to buying stock mouthpieces from stores or
mail order catalogs. You should consider all the options because the
mouthpiece is such an important part of the music-making equation.
