Subj: [kl] Vitamin C for a cold sore

<< have the flu (bad) and with it, yet another #@-----. I have been
plagued with them for my entire life, it seems. (Fortunately for me, only at
the top end!)
Aside from icing my lip a couple of times a day, I am currently woofing
Zovirax/Ancyclovir, 400 mg 3 times a day, as prescribed by my doc. He's a
good guy, but (a) doesn't really appreciate that this is a big deal, and (b)
may not be on the cutting edge of cold-sore fighting technology.

I used to be plauged by cold sores too! That's some heavy-duty medication
you're on, (I think mainly used for genital herpes), so if that's not working
I would look at lifestyle changes, stress reduction etc. As soon as I
finished my master's degree and left school my cold sores ceased so I think
stress plays a major role.
I would also try using vitamin E and perhaps some tea tree oil, which I've
heard is good for skin conditions. Good luck! Janis C

Kevin, also try taking Vitamin C. I have a student who started using C, and
it really helped clear his cold sores up a lot. (yeh, yeh, yeh, vitamin c
for a cold, but this is using Vitamin C when no cold is present to avoid
(help prevent) the sores altogether).
