Several months ago, I bought an H. Bettoney silver-plated metal clarinet and
asked about it on this bulletin board. I inadvertently left some
misinformation on the sneezy.org bulletin board (where I just posted a
correction). I may have repeated my mistake here as well, or repeated it in e-
mail to people I "met" on this list. I'm afraid I've misled vintage clarinet
afficionados into believing in a non-existent model. I called my H. Bettoney
a "Silver Bet" and was so sure about it that I even made a point of
differentiating it from the "Silva-Bet." Well, I've just looked at the logo
under a stronger magnifying glass that I had before, and have discovered that
I was misreading the "a-" and a scratch as "er." This is in fact a Silva-Bet.
The giant alligator living in the subway tunnels may now use the "Silver Bet"
to serenade Elvis while he performs an alien autopsy. Mea maxima culpa!
