They do here in the UK also, the band that I play with is also like a who's
who of music teachers and players from the Wirral which is in North West
England. This is officially the best Community Band in the UK having won
the title at the Wind Band championships in Manchester last year.

I am one of those players who teach and gig and it makes a nice change to
sit down and play for enjoyment along with your peers who are also doing it
for fun, relaxation, call it what you want. All I know is that my Monday
night is very precious and private lessons are scheduled around this.

for anyone that may be interested the Wirral Community Wind Band website can
be found at

www.jrdhome.force9.co.uk

John who maintains the website is always interested in links to other bands.
