Subj: [kl] The opera AIDA
Date: Sat, 20 Feb 1999 04:39:17 -0500

The first performance of Aida took place in Parma. It was a great
success. Verdi was called on stage for 29 curtain calls. Everyone was
happy. The audience loved it. This was their composer and their type of
opera.
But there was one man, whose name was Prospero Bertani, who traveled to
Parma from Reggio Amelia, who didn't like the performance.
When this Bertani returned to his town, he wrote Verdi and told him
that he didn't like the opera and demanded back the price of the ticket,
the train ticket and the meal.

Verdi replied that he would gladly refund Prospero his opera ticket
money and the train money.
The meal: NO!
YOU COULD HAVE HAD YOUR MEAL AT HOME BEFORE COMING TO THE PERFORMANCE!
