This is the set-up quandary. I play R-13's with Chadash barrels and a Hawkins I
purchased 5 years ago and the low end is the best I've ever experienced! It's in
tune, round and no fuzz and projects in the orchestra. In fact, for me the
problems exist in the altissimo--too much work. And that is why in a couple of
weeks I will be receiving the new Greg Smith Kaspar-style mp. I tried some of
these just while ago and find them to be wonderful. It is similar to a Hawkins .
The inside, however, is really much different and the rails are even unlike the
Hawkins. Smith told me that his new Zinner blanks are a custom design and
different than the Zinner blanks available through International Music Supplier.
