There have already been clarinets made that are extremely good and are out of
material other than wood. Johnny Mince had a hard rubber clarinet that was
made for him, I believe, that was incredibly good. This was quite a few years
ago when I heard him and talked to him about clarinets and I think it was made
by Conn or Buffet but am not sure. He had perfect pitch and said the
instrument played very well and was very well in tune. I have a very old A
clarinet that is hard rubber and is very consistant and is a good horn. I
think change is very slow to come about in the industry of instrument
manufacturers and there are less expensive ways to make very fine clarinets.
