It's always been one of my little peeves with youth and high school
orchestra directors that they program with little or no regard for this kind
of problem and usually make no effort to help solve it. The youth orchestra
or the school orchestra director would have a much better position than the
student from which to negotiate a loan from a music store or another school.
Or even to come up with the funds to buy one or two A clarinets for the
players' use in this kind of situation.

That said, whenever any of my students have run into this problem, I suggest
checking with their high school or other nearby high schools or checking
with a nearby _large sales volume_ music distributor about renting one for a
month or two. But, alas, they usually end up either buying one, which is the
best solution if you can afford it, or playing a transposed part. I wouldn't
want to have to play Capriccio Espagnol on a Bb either.
