Absolutely! I recall one lecturer on the physics of music, demonstrating
some notes on the fiddle and remarking "Menuhin and I have one thing in
common as players: he would make his sound on my instrument, and I would
make my sound on his!". =

It sure feels easier on a good instrument though, which gives you more ti=
me
to concentrate on the music.
