Granted, among all orchestral instruments, clarinets are among the least
expensive (although your basic Bach Stradivarius trumpet is considerably
less). Still for $2,000 or so, I expect a finished product. When we buy a
car, we accept (but not without grumbling) a certain number of bugs due to
the enormous complexity of the machines. But in that case, the
manufacturer has provided convenient, free correction of problems at every
dealership. As long as correction of intonation problems in clarinets is
just as available, convenient, and free, I will be mollified.
