What a fun instrument to get to play after all these years. when I was
recording my latest Klezmer CD " Celebrate Shabott". One of the songs just
cried for a bass clarinet. Luckily back in 1980, on one of my many trips to
see Matson. I had him reface an old C* for me, just in case I ever needed it.
So I dug out the mouthpiece pulled out a old bundy bass hiding under the
soloflex, grabbed a tenor sax reed, put it on the my reed wizard, slapped it
on the C* gave it a toot. To my disbelief the rig sounded really good. I
played two tunes on this Cd with on this rig. The guys in my band really
thought the sound of a bass, mongo hip. So a quick call to Lisa at
International Music sup. and I had my hands on a new prestige Bass. This is an
a great instrument, tuning is wonderful, sound is nice. I am finding the old
C* sounds great on it with #4 Vandoren Bass reeds, I run each through the
wizzard befor I play them. I find I get 4 out of a box of 5. I also find that
bass reeds work much better then Tenor sax reeds. Tom Puwalski
