Sealing the heel of reeds is something that I am going to try. I'll get
back in six months and let you know what, if anything, I found out.

I will be using the same sealer I use to stabilize and seal the thread
wrappings on my bassoon reeds---Duco Cement. Because Duco is very
durable and totally waterproof after it has dried, I consider it to be a
better choice of doping materials than fingernail polish.

I would encourage others to also take on some work and testing in this
area. I'm going to do some controlled type testing with half of the
reeds sealed and half not. All other break-in procedures will be the
same for both groups of reeds.
