It seems reasonable to assume that, once the reed is soaked up and placed
on the mouthpiece, the only thing left for it to do is dry out - even when
being played. But - when soaking, the primary way for moisture to enter
is on the vamp of the reed and through the butt of the reed - if one entry
is blocked, it will soak moisture much more slowly.
