Dear Jason, recently I finish my master dissertation on clarinet reeds
adjustment.
I made several expiriences and I have to tell you somethings:
first: Leting your reed on a "safe" place will not help to get better reeds.
Reeds needs sun and wind to dry correctly. If you have "green" reeds(with a
lot of moisture) you can try to put then on a plate with water and let them
exchange moisture with the water. The reeds' sap will pass to the water.
Change the water daily. After three or four days you must have to the let
the reeds dry on a piece of flat glass. It will help the reed dry correctly.
second: On my dissertation I could affirm that if you put nail polish on the
"hell" of the reed will help to prevent the reed became with a lot of
moisture, sealing the reed.
The procedures of adjust reeds can improve a lot the quality of your reeds
without doubt. But for that you must have to see if the reed is realy flat -
you can not fix the reed if it is not flat.
There are a lot of book explaining it(Opperman, Stier, etc) They are
excelent and you can learn, too, how to store it and you may can find out
"your way" to work on reeds.

All the best

Fernando
