Gemytria deals with the numeric VALUE of a word and is based on the
relationship between the letters of the alphabet in which the word is
written and the number system of that culture.

Numerology deals with the numeric CONTENT of a word and is a mythological
approach to words having mystic meaning. For example, the number of letters
of a word, the quantity of repetition of letters, even (in the case of
B-A-C-H) the relationship of the letters to the tones of the musical scale.

The two subjects are not at all the same. For example, there is no such
thing as Gemytria for words in the English language since the English
alphabet is distinct from the number system of the English/American culture.
The same is true for Germany, France, etc. Only those few cultures in
which the alphabet is also the number system, does Gemytria have an
opportunity to exist.

Numerology, on the other hand, exists in all cultures since a word in any
language may have content peculiarities to it. I once heard that a small
sect in the midwest considered bookkeepers as holy people because it wa
the only word in the English language with three consecutives sets of
double letters. And if you see mysticism in the letter "s" then have a
ball with Mississippi.

Summary: think "value" for gemytria. Think "content" for numerology.
