I tried the Howarth clarinets in Manchester at the National Wind Band
Championships here in the UK last year. I also had the added benefit of
having Linda Merrick, who is one of the UK's leading players, demonstrating
the instruments.

I found them to be well in tune nicely constructed and very nice to play.
they produce a darker tone quality than my current instruments (RC's) but
only slightly. I would not hesitate to recommend these instruments to
anyone to try them out.

They have what I consider to be very useful and that is adjustment screws
for the regulation of E/B and also for the adjustment of long Eb/Bb. Anyone
following the 1010 debate on the list will know I am a big fan of these and
their omission on today's clarinets are IMHO a big oversight on the part of
the manufacturers.
